School District 391 Kellogg School District to Return to a 5-Day Schedule Last evening the Kellogg School District Board of Trustees approved a plan for K - 12 students to return to a 5-day school week. Based upon current data and community conditions, the KSD Leadership Team proposed the plan. This plan recognizes the importance of continued, correct mask usage to keep staff and students from being exposed. The plan incorporates information provided by Governor Little and the Idaho State Board of Education about transmission in schools and amongst students and staff. The plan utilizes daily absenteeism data from each school and community data provided by the Panhandle Health District and local medical professionals. Both local and regional information will be used in making decisions regarding a possible school closure in the future. If this occurs, we will inform you quickly so you can make adjustments to schedules. In the Kellogg School District we have been preventing the spread of the virus by a commitment to wearing masks, social distancing when possible, enhanced cleaning, and contact tracing. We will continue to be diligent with these precautions. Thank you to our staff, students, parents and community members for supporting us and fighting to keep kids in school by taking the same precautions to prevent the spread of the virus. ____________________________________________________________ January 18, 2021 Message from Superintendent Larsen Dear Families and Staff of the Kellogg School District: We are ready to go back to school tomorrow using the schedule we were on prior to the storm. All of our power is back on and repairs are being made. I hope that your power is back on and your family is comfortable. If you don't have power and it causes your children to be late for school, please let us know. We will accommodate them and their tardies. Thank you for your patience during this uncommon time. Nancy J. Larsen, Superintendent KSD ___________________________________________________________________ 1-14-21 H ello families and staff: This is superintendent Larsen from the Kellogg School District. It's been a challenging day for all of us. Hopefully you have power restored and are safe and warm. At this point we know that the power may be temporary in some places while others are still without service. Therefore, we will not have school tomorrow which is Friday the 15th. Our buildings have sustained some damage and we’re working on repairs. We have staff dealing with unusual circumstances, as well. We are also supporting our community in cooperation with Shoshone County and Avista by offering our Kellogg Middle School Building as a warming shelter tonight. If you know of someone who needs to get warm send them our way. Please bring your own blankets and belongings. We have many people who have stepped up to help out and we are so thankful for each of them. Sincerely, Nancy Larsen 12-10-20 Press Release - December 10, 2020 - Kellogg Jt. School District 391 will Move to a Remote-only Learning Schedule Today the administrative leadership team met once again to discuss current situations in our schools surrounding covid-19 cases. Cases in our schools, Shoshone County, the Panhandle, and the state of Idaho are increasing at an alarming rate. Governor Little’s message today was one of compliance “to do the right thing to get the incident rate down.” We know that he and many people share our concerns about the well-being and education of our students and staff. Therefore, we must measure the two very carefully. In response, we are announcing a change in our schedule at Kellogg High School only. Beginning on Monday, December 14, Kellogg High School Students will go to a remote only learning schedule due to 40% and rising absenteeism of students there. Attendance will be taken as usual during remote learning. Please watch for additional information with specifics on the remote learning schedules for next week. We are monitoring the other schools on an hour to hour basis. Presently, Kellogg Middle, Pinehurst Elementary, and Canyon Elementary Schools will remain on the current routines. If this changes, we will inform you quickly so you can make adjustments to schedules. In the Kellogg School District we have been preventing the spread of the virus by a commitment to wearing masks, social distancing when possible, enhanced cleaning, and contact tracing. We will continue to be diligent with these precautions and will constantly re-evaluate our school plans. Thank you to our staff, students, parents and community members for supporting us and fighting to keep kids in school by taking the same precautions to prevent the spread of the virus. Dr. Nancy J. Larsen, Superintendent Kellogg Jt. School District 391 11-16-20 PARENT - TEACHER CONFERENCES NEXT WEEK: Due to extenuating circumstances, will not be holding our evening parent/teacher conferences. We will have a "drop in hour" from 12-1 each day. If a parent comes to the school we will all call the teachers of that student to report to the main office area. Teachers will provide a brief snapshot of the student status and the meeting should be no more than a 5 minute standing meeting with the parent. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to contact teachers to request recent updates on grades, behavior, and attendance of their students to individual teachers. We will continue to have scheduled conferences on Monday and Tuesday next week running 8-11:30/1-4:00 for selected students. 11-13-20 Message to Parents and Families: Governor Little held a Press Conference today to announce he is putting the state back into a modified Stage II due to increasing numbers of Covid cases and the limitations placed upon hospital capacity. He sounded concerned. Part of his conditions are limitations of gatherings to 10 people or fewer, but it doesn't pertain to businesses, churches, or schools. He stated: Schools are controlled environments and they remain safe places to work and learn, when protocols are followed. We will continue to monitor our situation on a daily basis. At this time we will continue with our current schedule. It is likely that regulations around sporting events may be altered. The Governor stressed the importanc...
